Thirty Seconds to Mars's sophomore album, “A Beautiful Lie” has dropped to the delight of many old fans and many, many
new fans alike. Brimming with three serious hits and nine just as well-constructed and addictive songs, Beautiful Lie is literally
one earful of sonic pleasure after another.
Contrary to their debut album, however, Beautiful Lie doesn't read like one flowing set of verses, but rather several individual
poems that have been put into the best possible configuration on the album. It reads more like a series of short stories than a
novel, and while it certainly makes for easy consumption, older fans like myself question where the balance will be struck and
a more flowing overall sound will come with the same kind of individual hits that have made Beautiful Lie such a successful
album.
That being said, this album really does have everything-- from the more sedate, flowing songs like 'The Story' that still takes
care to bring you to the edge of rock and still back down enough to keep your heartbeat steady, contrasted with high-impact
songs like 'Attack' that immediately begins to bring the tempo up and up until you're ready to blow your voice out along with
lead singer Jared Leto without thought.
Overall, a fantastic album and a definite must-have for any collection.
