When I first heard ‘Perfect Skin’ I was a little worried. It wasn’t that the song was bad; it just wasn’t what I expected from the
Helsinki vampires, known as the 69 Eyes. We have been patiently awaiting the release of ‘Angels’ for months now, and though
I was worried when I got to hear all the tracks, I couldn’t believe that I had any doubt.
This album still has the dark ambience that is The 69 Eyes, but there is also the glamorous dark side of Hollywood found in Los
Angeles, the horrific humor of Frankenhooker and The beauty of A string quartet found in my favourite song on the album, Star
of Fate. If you are looking for an album that is well rounded, over all fun and full of surprises I am sure this one is what you are
looking for.
Jyrki 69 takes no action to hide his accent throughout the songs giving his deep voice even more character and a tinge of Elvis,
meets Morrison and a bit of Danzig. (Perhaps we compare these four together because there are so few men in the industry that
can make that bass vocal sound so.. mesmerizing. (I left out Peter Steele for personal reasons)).
This album hits those places in you that make you feel that darkness with in your soul, but there are hints in the lyrics that show
in depth meanings. If you look past Frankenhooker, and lift your eyes up from the lovely ‘v’ that is Jussi 69’s hips you may find
yourself learning more about yourself from this one that you could ever imagine.
