Heading to Philly this past Saturday, which was a black, dreary, rainy Saturday, en
route to the Broad Street FYE store in Center City, Philadelphia, the torrential rains
of the past two days finally began to taper off, and as I reached the outskirts of the
city, I could actually see sun in the sky. Major improvement from an hour prior,
when it was raining buckets, forcing me to stop at a WalMart to pick up a cute hat
to keep over my head to at least try to control the amount of frizzing my hair was
about to do, that's for sure. It had started out as "one of those days," and it always
seems to me that "one of those days," is always that much worse when it's pouring
rain out, but as clouds gave way to bluer skies, I finally began to have hope that the
day was salvageable, which was probably more of a good thing for the guys in five
Victory Records signed bands - Driver Side Impact, A Day to Remember, June,
The Sleeping, and Bayside - who had come to town to play, another stop on the
Victory Tour 2007. I can't imagine what it must be like to have to load or unload
musical equipment in cold rain, but thankfully the weather gave everyone a break,
just in time for the bands to put on what turned out to be an awesome show to a
packed house at the Trocadero on 10th and Arch, one of Philly's most fun venues.

I was headed to the FYE store actually, because before all the fun was to happen at
the Troc that evening, all of the bands, less Bayside, came in to do a signing, and
Driver Side Impact, Victory's new star, performed a wonderful acoustic set of
four of their songs, down on the main store floor. I didn't know much about the
band myself at the time, and had only heard about half the songs off their CD,
The Very Air We Breathe, therefore I really had no expectations for this acoustic
session, but it was really relaxed and casual, and seemed to go over really well to
the small group that had gathered to see the band, and meet them afterward.
Apparently the boys had literally just arrived in town in their van, not fifteen
minutes before the scheduled time of this, their first acoustic set, and not having the chance to warm up any, 21-year-old lead singer
Branden apologized ahead of time for not sounding up to par, but all-in-all, the set was really very nice. Since it was a small group, fans
were invited to sit on the edge of the little platform stage, and except for the fact that this FYE location is fairly large, it seemed like a
really cozy, private serenade for the group of us that were there as Branden Langhals, accompanied by guitarists Jack McGinty and
Mikey Arnold, and bassist Teddy Feighan. Their new drummer, Dave (and I failed to get a last name) videotaped the session, so it's a
possibility it may appear on the band's Myspace, along with their other videoblogs that they have been posting there.

sounded great that night, during their amazing set. I think it was about this time, too, that the crowd surfing first began, so June
obviously kept fans worked up and enjoying themselves as they anxiously awaited Bayside's performance.

By the time The Sleeping took the stage, the Trocadero was really full, and really crazy with people who were having a great time and
completely enjoying their evening filled with so much energy and great music. If they weren't awake yet, The Sleeping definitely made
sure everyone was, throwing themselves into an electrifying set of heavy hits from their CD
Questions and Answers, and others,
including the song
Don't Hold Back, which lead singer Doug Robinson proudly noted was on the Guitar Hero III soundtrack, to the
screams and applaud of the audience. Their set was definitely the most interactive of the night, too, with the band dancing around the
stage, and Doug, at numerous times during the set, leaping off the stage and into the waiting crowd or hanging over the barrier to sing
with fans, while they touched and grabbed at him. I, myself, am not a particular fan of their music, but I can't deny the fact that The
Sleeping really know how to put on a show, for those that are, and definitely seem worth spending the money on.

Then, finally, after all those great sets by all those great bands, Bayside took the
stage, and the place erupted with the cheers of anxious, happy fans. The band put
on a fairly lengthy set, playing quite a number of both new songs as well as older
ones, and they commanded the audiences attention the entire time. Some of the
songs played included
They're Not Horses, They're Unicorns, Evelyn,
Masterpiece, Poison in My Veins,
and a lovely acoustic version of Megan,
complete with moody set lights in blue and pink, which was the icing on the cake.
It was plain to see that the fans were in love with this band between the amount of
crowd surfing and screaming, a testament to Bayside's popularity and ability to put
on a great concert.

I guess it's pretty safe for me to say that Saturday's show, from the first notes of
Driver Side Impact to the last of Bayside, was an astounding success in
Philadelphia, which is a good thing. I've recently criticised my own city a lot,
because it has seemed like a lot of shows have been attended by zombies, rather t
han fans and concert-goers, but the crowd at the Trocadero made up for that a
little bit this time. The bands are definitely in tune with their audiences, so I
definitely recommend that if you're fans of any of them, you don't miss this tour.
I especially think you shouldn't miss this tour, too, because you definitely want to
get a chance to see Driver Side Impact, who I feel really have a bright future ahead
of them. They'll be around again over the winter, or so I'm told, but you can catch
them now, supporting Bayside and the rest of the bands, and get five times the
bang for your buck.

After the short acoustic performance, Driver Side Impact participated in
the signing, along with the other Victory bands, and greeted fans and
stood for pictures with them. Watching them interact, and then meeting
them later on as the day went on, I can definitely say that the guys in
Driver Side Impact are a group of really friendly, hopeful guys who are
more than happy and interested to meet their growing fanbase, and get to
know them. If you're checking out the show as the tour heads your way,
you definitely want to stop and say hi to these guys.

Then, later Saturday evening, Driver Side Impact kicked off the Victory
Tour 2007 at the Trocadero, taking the stage and playing to,
encouragingly, a near-full house, right from the start. It seems as though
there weren't many people that wanted to be late for this lineup, and that's
definitely a great way for a great opener to start off a really fun night.
They played an awesome set that was really well-received, including the
single The Heist, as well as other songs off the CD. Supporting their latest
CD,
For Those Who Have Heart, A Day to Remember, another one of
Victory's newer bands, took the stage next. Well on their way to collecting
a good fanbase, A Day to Remember put out an energetic set that kept the
house rocking and the fans jumping, getting them set for Bayside, later on.
Following A Day to Remember, the band June took the stage and kept the
place jumping, playing songs from their second and latest release,
Make it
Blur
, including the single I'd Lose Myself. Actually, June was apparently
slated to do a short acoustic set earlier in the day along with Driver Side
Impact, but as I was informed, lead singer Tim Brennan was concerned
about his voice holding up on that chilly, damp day, so the band did not
play at FYE - a decision that was obviously a wise one, because they
