Dope in Salt Lake City written by Stephanie
Down in front is the only place to be for this kind of show. I've been
here before and I'll do it again. Nocturne, Dope and Mushroomhead.

Nocturne starts the show off with a bang. From the first chord,
Nocturne will rock you silly. Vocalist, Lacey, keeps you enthralled
and captivated from beginning to end. The songs have a true rock
lyrical content and Lacey's voice is very similar to that of
Genitorturers' Gen. Chris tends to fade into the background far
too often and Lacey does well to remember him and bring him back
up front into the spotlight. Rotny was their tour bassist for the second
time running. He's equally amazing to watch and many concert-goers
found themselves with concert eyeball from looking back and forth
between Rotny and Lacey. Wayland (Mushroomhead) filled in on the
drums for them and seemed to fit right in. The entire crowd screamed
along with Lacey during "Feel Like a Whore" and an army of fists
pounded the air during "My Bitch". It was an awesome set. These
guys are always incredible live. I’m always impressed with how
Lacey can move around in her platformed or high-heeled shoes with
not just amazing grace, but fluidly move about the smallest of stages
without missing a beat as well. There’s a part of the show where she
gets on the stage floor, writhing and crawling on her hands and knees,
rolling around on her back. Beautifully erotic. It makes it that much
more worth seeing when you see the size of the stage and wonder
if she’ll be able to pull it off – and become so mesmorized with her
effortless movements that you momentarily forget about the size of
the stage. The music is amazing. Buy all the CD’s and don’t forget
the covers they’ve done of NIN and Marilyn Manson either. You
won’t be disappointed. And the live show? Hot. Hot. Hot. My only
disappointment? Work on your dance moves, Lacey. You're a beautiful and captivating frontwoman.. but 3 shots from my camera
and I've captured all your moves.

After a screaming introduction by Scotty, the boys came on stage with the familiar strobe light in black room effect, smoke
machine in full effect, and the booming voice of “Ask not.. What your country can do for you… But what you can do for your
country”. Edsel took command in seconds and the crowd roared to life under his pointed index finger. We all jumped and screamed
back, the crowd moving as one fan. They were amazing as always. I’ve never seen them play a “bad show”.

The stage was so dark it was hard to focus my camera on anyone. Even Brix, who was standing directly in front of me. I would
look through the lens and couldn’t tell if I was aimed at anyone or not. It made for some pretty interesting pictures. Pretty
dreadlocks flying everywhere. Where's my Pulitzer?

The set was just great. Virus and Brix only traded spots once due to the small size of the stage, but did so with no incident
whatsoever. It all moved pretty smoothly. I’m sure Edsel was pleased.

About ¾ through the set, however, our little group that had come to see them play was just dying. I was sweating from pores that
I didn’t even know existed. Because of the rain that was going on outside and the heat that was being generated by the fans inside,
it was a disgusting humid hotbox. Desperate for some air we all muddled our way outside and listened to the rest of Dope’s set
from there. It was disappointing to miss the ending of their set, but the humidity and heat was making everyone sick.

Needless to say I was still outside when Mushroomhead came on to play, but through the club door they sounded like they were
playing their usual best.

All in all what makes this one of my favorite concert events to go to is the level of energy that radiates from these bands, the quality
and availability of merch (they even come in size fat!!), and the fact that none of these people fall into the "snooty rockstar"
category. They are there for the music and for the fans and it shows. They're very easily approachable, friendly, and are more than
happy to sign something or pose for a picture to make your night. I look forward every time Dope & Nocturne are in town.

DEFINITELY. Don't. Miss. This. Show.
