Laney- Teenage Casket Company written by Trashy T
NF/  How would you describe your music to people
who don't know it?

TCC/ We all kinda come from very different musical
backgrounds so it makes our sound sometimes a little
hard to pigeon hole. We're suckers for really strong
melodies and big, big choruses and hooks so as long
as it ticks those boxes and has loud guitars then it fits
the TCC blue print! We used to use the term 'Punk
Rock Bon Jovi' a couple of years ago cause that
pretty much nails it. That kind music was unheard of
a few years ago and people seemed to be scared of
writing a catchy song. It's still pretty rare nowadays
but I think bands are today realising you don't need
to shout and scream all the time - you can sing a
melody and people will still enjoy it! It's simple music
maths!!

NF/ Who are your influences musically?

Laney/  We're all from pretty different musical
backgrounds. Wylde (Vocals & Guitar) and I grew
up listening to late eighties, early nineties Hard Rock
bands like Poison, Bon Jovi, Danger Danger, Def
Leppard etc so that's were we find a lot of our
influences. People in the past have really wragged on
that genre which seems weird because it's really
stood the test of time with such great songs. Only now I think bands from that time are crawling back some respect. Sure the image
was way over the top but the songs are untouchable! Jamie (Vocals & Guitar) is from an old school punk background and really
knows his shit when it comes to that. He played in a band PANIC for ten years prior to hooking up with TCC. Spike our drummer
loves real slick eighties pop like The Police and a bunch of progressive music so on paper our band should be a real cluster fuck
(some may say it is) but it seems to work and gives us our own unique take on the Hard Rock genre.

NF/  Cool, So how did you all meet?

Laney/ We're all from different parts of the UK originally. Wylde is from Wigan, Jamie from Newcastle and Spike and I are from the
Midlands but we all kinda came together in Nottingham. I'd seen Wylde at a bunch of rock shows over the years but never got to
know him until one drunken night in Rock City when we got speaking. His old band used to rehearse at the studio Jamie was running
and I knew Spike from being in a band with him a few years earlier. It all came together pretty easily and quickly to be honest. Within
six months of starting the band we'd put together a full set, started performing regularly and recorded something like ten songs which
were soon re-done for the 'Dial It Up' album.

NF/  Wicked, So where has been your favourite venue to play so far and why?

Laney/ Anywhere you get a good crowd reaction is a great place to play! Out hometown shows at Junktion7 in Nottingham usualy
tend to be off the scale these days. The last couple have been awesome, one of which was part of the TrashStock Festival and the
place was beyond Sold Out - I think only the second time in the venue's history. A great night!

NF/ Awsome, what do you think about before you go onstage?

Laney/  Not much usually. I normally have Wylde telling me not to pull out his guitar lead 'cause we move about so much and I'm
hoping that my wireless pack holds out for the whole show! I'm a born worrier so I'm always concerned about getting up there on
time and not over running which is a stupid thing to let get me down!

NF/ What's your favourite song to play and why?

Laney/  I think we all love playing new songs. Our latest songs like 'Own Best Enemy' and 'Secret of my Success' have been going
down great and I think you always play new tunes with a fresh energy. From the old set I still get a kick out of playing 'Mirrors &
Wires' from the first album. Over the last year I've been doing a lot more singing too so that's kept things fresh for me and on my toes.

NF/ Can you tell us a random fact about something?

Laney/  Errr.... I think one of the coolest stories about the band was when Wylde and I realised we'd both gone to the same gig, Bone
Machine at Bradford Rio's, back in 1994. Rio's was like a couple of hours from where we were both living at the time, me in
Nottingham and Wylde in Wigan. We figured out we must have both stood right next to each other at the front during the show too!
Neither of us knew the other at the time and can't remember seeing one another but there's a photo somewhere from after the gig of
all the people who hung around which should have the pair of us on there! I always thought that was pretty neat, especially for us to
meet up so many years after and start a band.

NF/  Wow that’s pretty cool,   Which of the seven deadly sins would you say you are?

Laney/   I think all of us have a little of each inside us!! If I had to choose, well I'm a bit of a hoarder so maybe 'Greed' but with
Christmas on the horizon I think 'Gluttony' will come a close second!!

NF/  Which of the festivals would you want to play given the choice and why?

Laney/  I was so close to getting the chance to play at the Rocklahoma Festival in the USA this past summer as part of The
Bulletboys but turned it down 'cause I'd promised to do a show over here! I must be criminally insane as that was probably one of the
coolest Hard Rock lineups ever and I think I've kicked myself everyday since! I guess I'm hoping I can lay the ghost to rest and do it
next year so that's on the list. In the UK it's obviously gotta be Download which I think most of us still call Donington. Bring back
The Monsters of Rock!!

NF/ Any plans for Xmas and the New Year?

Laney/ The last few years I've not really been a massive fan of Christmas, call me Scrooge if you like! I'm escaping this year and
spending a week with my Dad which should be cool, then it's back to business in 2008. TCC will be continuing to write for the new
album and I'm hopefully gonna be helping a bunch of bands out who are without a bass player so I should be busy for the first couple
of months at least.

NF/ It's been wicked talking to you thanx for your time.

Laney/   No problem, thanks for all the support and all the best for 2008! Keep it Rock!!
