It was an event that had people coming from all over the world.
I myself coming from the States would have to say that the 15
hours of travel was well worth it.
The gig was smooth first off, doors opening on time and all acts
going on promptly on the hour as scheduled. This alone warrants
a pat on the back to the road crew and event staff.
Placebo came on stage opening with “Infra-Red” one of the stronger
tracks on Meds. The high light for me personally was
“Space Monkey” a dark and sensual ride that was better live
than on the album. Placebo performed a lot of tracks from Meds,
which has been on the top charts all over the world since it’s release
in March (in Europe and April in The U.S.) The band was full of
energy from the first track to the last. Placebo made sure to
include tracks such as "36 Degrees" and "The Bitter End" and
the band never lost momentum on stage or from the crowd. At
times the fans were so loud that it became more of a sing along.
Brian’s normal banter was minimal and it was apparent this was
all about the music. With the exception of his proud introduction of
V.V. (The Kills) to perform meds with him he concentrated on the
music and his performance.
The changes in the set list were welcomed as well dropping Pure Morning and Change your taste in men and replacing them
with an incredible cover of "Running up that Hill" and the song that started it all "Nancyboy".
Placebo is one of those bands that whether you like them or not they put on a hell of a show. The only bad thing about this gig
was when the last note of “Nancyboy” rang out and we knew it was time to go home.
