This isn't the 'Feel-Good' Album Of The Year by any
means, but to say it shouldn't reach an Album Of The
Year award on any platform wouldn't do the album
justice either. It's not an album you can listen to and
walk away from with a smile on your face, bopping
your head to the beat - Yeah! GREAT album!
What it IS - is long overdue.
Nikki Sixx takes his fans on a musical journey, reaching
depths never before known to most fans. The lyrics
aren't sugar-coated; stripped down to the bare bones of
it all, Sixx tells the story behind his very real drug
addiction and recovery, while the music transports you
to each scene described.
Sixx allows himself to be stripped from his 'Rock God'
title to display himself as a very real human being with a
very real problem. Each track offers a
behind-the-scenes look at the pull of temptation, the
strength to fight it, and the harsh reality call of sobriety.
James Michael is the 'storyteller' whose gutteral voice
could not have been given a more perfect role. The
guitar solos and duets by Nikki Sixx and DJ Ashba
convince fans of the importance of this album. The
importance of recovery for the ability TO look back and
say "It's amazing I'm still alive" rather than being the
guest of honor at a funeral.
The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack is a thought-provoking, emotional opus and Nikki Sixx is to be commended for his
instrumentation in its production.
